the truth about teaching English...

After 17 years I have come to the conclusion that teaching is not about teaching strategies or TESA, or anything else like that. Classroom management or discipline training or whatever. It has to do with motivation, and while the teacher can do some of that, he/she cannot be more than a 15 minute motivator. If the student cannot "connect the dots" and get inspired or grind it out, that is not a teacher problem.

It's too bad so many of my students cannot connect the dots: they cannot or will not make the connection between work and grades and learning.
