A passage from Mccourt

I read my students one passage from mccourt today, the one about him trying to understand the american teenager. I asked my students to write what they thought the typical teenager is like and then if they thought they were typical teenagers.

well, it was a start. we had some good discussion.

next I will read them the passage about the thrown sandwich. Was eating the sandwich a good way to solve the problem? and is this believable at all?

but most importantly I need to get the students thinking about writing complex essays for the state exit exam. more on mccourt's view of the new york state exam later.
